Is MSG bad for your health?

There are certain facts about the US population that cannot be disputed. We, as a people, consume more processed foods than any other nation. We are number 3 on the worldwide rates of obesity and locals in foreign countries can immediately pick out the Americans at tourist spots-we are the fat ones!

What's in our foods that do this? Well, if you take the time to read the ingredients on the label, you will find MSG or some form of it. Scientists feed it to lab rats to fatten them up for diabetes studies and the food companies put it into our food to enhance taste. MSG is known as an excito-toxin that kills brain cells and overloads (over-excites) our normal glutamate receptors.

I'll have more on MSG as time goes on. In the meantime, I recommend a very eyeopening video that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Pleas search for the video "The Beautiful Truth" on Youtube. You will find all the movie segments, but sometimes the entire movie is posted as one continuous video. Anyway, the movie also tells the story of Max Gerson MD who CURED CANCER OVER AND OVER after moving to the states from Germany in the 1930s.

Adraine M stepped down to regular supervisor a few weeks ago. He didn't like having to deal with operations MDOs like Etta L on a daily basis. A new maintenance manager was selected from Transportation. Everyone was worried as the man chosen was well known to be disliked by the truck drivers. But good news! He turned out okay. Rudy D is his name and he seems quite friendly to me. He knows nothing about maintenance, but he is an experienced manager and seems to be working good. So far, we all like him. I hope he keeps the so called status quo!

Here I am on my scooter at work. Just because I have a walking disability doesn't mean I can't work. I can get around the machines by holding onto rails, ect. and fix most anything. New machine operators are quite surprised when they call on the radio for an electronic technician for help and I drive up on my scooter! What a hoot!

I started playing around on Yahoo Messenger. Some women in Ghana, Africa contacted me "looking for relationships." It all boils around money. They lead you on, then hit you up for money to start a business, or to come to the United States to be with you, etc. I turn the tables on them once the subject of money comes up. I tell the girl what I would like to do to her and what I would like her to do to me. I then ask if she's willing to do it or not. Every time she brings up the subject of money, I steer the conversation toward sex. I bet these ladies are sitting in an internet cafe in Ghana or Nigeria and all the people are watching their conversations with me and laughing their asses off!

I don't mind talking to legitimate women about relationships, because I need one myself. I am quite lonely being divorced. I don't want to marry again, but I could handle ONE WOMAN to be a permanent partner to me.

I saw an informative video on Dr Mercola's web site at: http://mercola.com/ on the dangers of MSG and how "high fructose corn syrup" is causing nationwide obesity. Type II diabetes has already been linked to obesity.

MSG is hidden in most processed foods under various names most people don't recognize. MSG can cause headaches (Jerry in Supply take note), heart arrythmias, eye damage and even brain damage in certain people.

High fructose corn syrup is a flavor enhancer like MSG and is linked to weight gain all across America. I recommend going to the above web site and educating yourself and saving your health!

Firefighters cut a hole in the side of a house and used a forklift to extricate a 900-pound man from his second-floor bedroom after a visiting nurse became worried about his health.
Rescue workers were called in Tuesday by the nurse, who determined the 33-year-old man needed medical help, Fire Chief Tom Cochran said.
Cochran said the man had not left his home since 2003.
The man's brother, who lives with him, said he suffers from Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that creates a chronic hunger feeling that can lead to overeating and life-threatening obesity.
Rescue workers brought in a forklift, high enough to raise a platform to a hole cut into the wall of the house. They covered the man with a blue tarp to shield him from onlookers and slid the platform onto a flatbed truck for a trip to Sparrow Hospital.

We used to have a real fat clerk at the SF P&DC. In 1982 she fell down by the Tour Office and couldn't get up. A couple of mailhandlers couldn't lift her, either. So, they got a fork lift from the platform and raised her to her feet; she then waddled off to the box section where they kept all the other fat people.

It's interesting, too, that the first food drive in the SF P&DC had the people in the box section in charge of the food! I wonder how much food actually made it to the poor?

On my last retirement estimate I noticed on the back it said I'm eligible for the full 80% high-three average after 41 years 11 months. What happened to the old 41/7? Did the OPM in Washington change the law and not tell anyone?

I'm on annual leave now, but when I get back I will ask Gus Moreno about this. He should know since he's the Assistant Maintenance Craft Director of the union. He usually keeps up on these things.

As it looks now, I'll have to struggle with my weak legs another year.

WASHINGTON — Senate Democrats are drafting legislation to scale back the mission of U.S. troops in Iraq in an effort that would reduce the broad war-making powers Congress granted to President Bush in 2002, officials said Thursday.
While these officials said the precise wording of the measure remains unsettled, one draft would restrict American troops in Iraq to combating Al Qaeda, training Iraqi army and police forces, maintaining Iraq's territorial integrity and otherwise proceeding with the withdrawal of combat forces.
The officials, Democratic aides and others familiar with private discussions, spoke only on condition of anonymity because rank-and-file senators had not yet been briefed on the effort. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is expected to present the proposal to fellow Democrats early next week for their consideration, according to officials.
The plan is to attempt to add the measure to anti-terrorism legislation that is scheduled to be on the Senate floor next week and the week after.
Jim Manley, a spokesman for Reid, would not discuss the deliberations Thursday and said, 'No final decisions have been made on how to proceed.'

U.S. soldier gets 100 years for Iraq rape, killings - CNN.com: "FORT CAMPBELL, Kentucky (AP) -- A U.S. soldier was sentenced to 100 years in prison Thursday for the gang rape and murder of an Iraqi girl and the killing of her family last year.
Sgt. Paul E. Cortez, 24, also was given a dishonorable discharge. He will be eligible for parole in 10 years under the terms of his plea agreement.
Cortez, of Barstow, California, pleaded guilty this week to four counts of felony murder, rape and conspiracy to rape in a case considered among the worst atrocities by U.S. military personnel in Iraq.
In his plea agreement, he said he conspired with three other soldiers from the Fort Campbell-based 101st Airborne Division to rape 14-year-old Abeer Qassim al-Janabi. The girl, her parents and a younger sister were all killed.
Earlier Thursday, tears rolled down Cortez's face as he apologized for the rape and murders. He said he could not explain why he took part.

Supervisor Demotions

Dave Martinez is the supervisor in Maintenance Control, now called Maintenance Operations Support. Dave seems to have a lot of political pull in the SF Post Office. During the last month, he demoted new Custodial Supervisor Franklin Ross back to custodian. He also put Norman Gabadorez (sic) back on the floor as a custodian.

Gabadorez (sic) has been a 204b for five years, and was told by Dave Martinez that someone with "more experience" has been hired. How's that for a lot of thanks for a job well done? "Gabie" was well liked and everyone was happy with him.

One the other hand, Franklin Ross was not too well liked. He rode herd on all the Tour One custodians, and they really didn't appreciate that. Ross seemed very proud of his promotion to supervisor, and I guess he had a right to feel proud. He came in every night in his three-piece suit and looked the part. He gave rather boring "put-down" service talks at the time clock every night, too, and THAT wasn't well liked, either. He was demoted back to custodian for reasons unknown, and has not been back to work since. I think his pride was really hurt; that's the reason for his absence. Typical post office mentality-no appreciation of employee efforts at doing a good job.

I also hear that the custodial 204b employees on Tour Two have been sent back to the floor. Maybe something is happening behind the scenes.

The Big Spinach Scare

Let me get this straight: E. Coli has infected fresh spinach, and now one person is dead and a whole gob of other people are sick in several states-right?

Where does E. Coli come from? There are many strains, all dangerous, but it's found mostly in human excrement. I guess animals harbor it, too, but animals bury their crap, except for dogs. The infection has been traced to the fields in California. This big scare is going to hurt the farmers big time.

I think it is indirectly the fault of President Bush. Here is my reasoning:

President Bush has ignored the Mexican border and the hordes of illegal aliens swarming into the United States, many with anti-biotic resistant TB and other diseases. A large portion of the immigrants work in the farm fields where they are "doing the work Americans won't do," according to President Bush. To save money, the farmers provide very limited toilet facilities to the pickers, so what does a picker do when he or she is way out in the field picking fruits and vegetables on a piece count basis and suddenly has to go to the bathroom? Will he or she stop work and spend thirty to forty-five minutes hiking to the restroom? Probably not.

I think a farm worker had to take a dump and just dropped his pants and pooped in the spinach.

Seems pretty likely to me! What do you think?

WASHINGTON - The Army says its success in enlisting new soldiers this year, after a dismal 2005, is innovative salesmanship by a bigger team of recruiters and financial incentives like bonuses of up to $40,000.

The Pentagon announced Friday that the Army met its recruiting goal for August, which a senior Army official said makes it virtually certain that the service will achieve its aim of signing up 80,000 new soldiers for the full recruiting year, which ends Sept. 30. Last year the Army fell short for the first time since 1999.

"We're reaching out a lot better," said the official, Maj. Gen. Sean Byrne, director of military personnel management. The Army is making better use of the Internet, for example, to reach more young people, he said.

The Army also has put about one-third more recruiters on the street, and Congress approved new financial incentives for enlistees, including signing bonuses for some slots of as much as $40,000. The Army also began allowing people as old as 42 to enter the service; the maximum age previously was 35.

Through August, the active-duty Army had signed up 72,997 new soldiers, nearly 3,000 above its year-to-date target. The Army National Guard was about 200 below its target of 63,240, while the Army Reserve, which had a particularly weak performance in August, was almost 2,000 below its year-to-date target of 33,124.

For August alone, the active Army topped the 10,000 mark for the second month in a row. It was the 15th consecutive month the active Army has met or exceeded its monthly goal. It missed four months in a row in early 2005, and some questioned whether the Army had developed a chronic and debilitating problem.

The Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy all achieved their August goals and are on target to meet their full-year targets, the Pentagon said.

Summer is typically the strongest recruiting season.

The Army's ability to recruit is particularly important now because it is trying to grow in size, as part of a plan to build a larger number of combat brigades for use in Iraq, Afghanistan and potentially elsewhere. Without that growth, existing brigades would be rotating so often on overseas combat tours that the Army would risk alienating soldiers and their families, thus eroding their willingness to re-enlist.

Even now, after increasing the active-duty Army by about 10,000 soldiers this year, to about 501,000, soldiers generally get less than two years at home between one-year tours in Iraq.

Byrne said the Iraq war continues to be a drag on recruiting, and he said unpublished Army research surveys show people of enlistment age are increasingly disinclined to join. Similarly, adults who influence the choices of potential recruits _ like parents, teachers and coaches _ are less inclined to recommend military service.

But the Army has managed to overcome those negative factors by using more innovative techniques to reach young people, Byrne said. Recruiters, for example, are available at all hours on an Army Web site chat room. Those who indicate a strong interest are then offered a chance to meet face-to-face with a recruiter. That has proven more productive, Byrne said, than traditional tactics like waiting for people to walk into a recruiting station.

The Army also has accepted a larger number of recruits whose score on a standardized aptitude test is at the lower end of the acceptable range, and it has granted waivers to permit the enlistment of people with criminal records that otherwise would disqualify them. The Army says it does not grant waivers if there is a pattern of criminal misconduct or for convictions of drug trafficking or any sexually violent crimes.

Dawn of a new Era: More on the Maint. Audit

The audit team recommended that four lower-level maintenance managers be fired. The acting manager, maintenance, pulled three managers and put them elsewhere, including the worse offender, Robert. I am told that Robert came in the next day to clean out his office, and he was hopping mad! Good! He deserves it.

Robert was reassigned to the Mechanical Unit where he is not in charge. The person running things there is a woman-ANOTHER INSULT TO ROBERT! He can no longer run his own world...At least for now.

The fourth manager was not reassigned, as he is going to retire soon, anyway.

The manager of our tour, Nate, was reassigned to PMA (the Boondocks). Nate once told our supervisor that if he were ever put in charge, he would run things "exactly like Robert * does." I hope Nate got the message that Robert's management style doesn't cut it.

Our supervisor has been approached to become manager of Tour One and Electronics Technician Ron has been approached to take back his former job as supervisor.

It looks like things might start picking up in maintenance now. Once Joe R., the official manager of maintenance retires, I'm sure we will have a turnaround. At one time San Francisco had the best maintenance department on the West Coast, but after Joe R took over in 1998 and brought his henchmen over from Oakland, maintenance spiraled downhill and hit bottom.

We Failed the Maintenance Audit

HQ sent an audit team to San Francisco to see what's really happening in maintenance. I think they looked at operations, too. Maintenance failed the audit. The paperwork was evidently in order, but they found a lot of things wrong with the equipment upon closer inspection. The question left was: Ok, the work was done (route sheets), but what was the quality of that work?

It's been a few days since the report was made known to the supervisors. It's obvious that the problem is low-quality workmanship in maintenance. I know the reason: It's the Tour Two Maintenance Manager. He micromanages, criticizes and demoralizes the crew-as he has been doing for several years. Now the problem has finally showed up! I'm glad we failed-it's payback time!

Another time, a Tour Three maintenance supervisor wrote up a work order for an IPSS problem. The complaint: Sight to Sight Communications Down. The supervisor originally came from Oakland-maybe that's how they spell over there.

I was talking with a Tour Two technician today, and he said someone else poured the ink on the parts books. He said the maintenance manager was in the AA area Monday ranting and raving about the guys not cleaning up like he ordered, and was throwing parts and stuff on the floor having a temper tantrum. After he left, only two rollaways had no tool chests on top-the parts books were put on these. Someone was disgruntled and didn't like the parts books being put on his rollaway, and so he retaliated by destroying the books.

I know both people whose rollaways were involved. I can dismiss one of those persons out-of-hand.

Well, we'll see what happens next.

The pictures below are DBCS parts manuals in the maintenance area. Someone poured ink on them. Who did this? Well, alledgedly it was done by the maintenance manager. That's what the guys on Tour Two are saying.

On 2/27/06, the maintenance manager had the DBCS AA area cleaned out. Everything not nailed down went out in the trash compactor-including a lot of spare parts! This manager is the most abusive person I've ever met in the postal service. I'm glad I am not on Tour Two.

Everyone is afraid of the guy, and now we're all worried about what he will do next. Our working environment in SF is very poor and morale is low. I'm surprised anyone does any work at all!

A 33-pound cat in Qingdao, China, is being described as a 'feline monster' because of its 31-inch waist and large size, according to a report.

The 9-year-old cat from the Shandong Province is so heavy it needs the help of its owner to get onto a bed. However, the cat is in surprisingly good health despite its weight, Local 6 News reported.

On Annual Leave for a Week

I'm taking the week off. That's 32 hours of annual in conjunction with the holiday for Presidents Day. Hmm...Should that be "President's"?

I got all my little projects done now, so the rest of my vacation will be spent playing chess online starting tonight, Sunday February 19, 2006. I play on ICC as "Hamoperator." That's because I am a ham radio operator (duh). I also play on Yahoo as u_boat_198. If you see me on there, be sure to challenge me to a game; I'm sure I won't win for a while as I lost my edge not playing for so long.

I Finished Posting my Coins for Sale on Yahoo

I currently have a number of rare coins up for bid on Yahoo Auctions. I have an account with EBAY, but I tend to stay away from them. So many people have the same items, it is hard to sell on EBAY. Also, their fees are killing me! They charge an "insertion fee" for posting an item, a fee based on the final sales price and finally, a fee for Pay Pal to handle the transaction. This last item really irks me: EBAY owns Pay Pal!

My Yahoo aution booth has been revamped. All items up for bid have no reserve price, and I believe the starting prices are quite fair.

I don't plan on posting any more coins for a while until the current coins start to get sold. So what am I going to be doing in the meantime? Well, I think it is time to go back to playing online chess again. I haven't played in some time now, so I'm losing my edge.

30 Minutes of Nutritutional Training

Did you read the article in the last post? That doctor said he received thirty minutes of nutritional training in medical school. I have been telling people for years at the post office that doctors receive twenty minutes of nutritional training during four years of medical school. Everyone dismissed what I said; now I'm vindicated.

This is important for people to know, as doctors are not gods, and they frequently guess at diagnosis. Sorta' like new ETs using a flowchart for troubleshooting a machine they don't understand.

A former San Francisco postal employee is facing federal charges for allegedly threatening to harm or kill his onetime colleagues in a telephone threat made after a post-office rampage in Santa Barbara County, authorities said Monday.
Michael Anthony Kennelly, 52, allegedly called the Postal Service's processing and distribution center Wednesday at 1300 Evans Ave. in San Francisco and said, 'I am gonna make what happened in Santa Barbara happen here. I know what it is like to get fired,' a postal inspector said in an affidavit.
Two days earlier, former postal worker Jennifer San Marco, 44, opened fire at a mail processing center in Goleta, near the UC Santa Barbara campus. Six postal workers were killed; San Marco also shot and killed a neighbor and later killed herself, police said.
Kennelly's threat prompted postal inspectors to increase security at the distribution center in San Francisco's Bayview district, where he had worked until he was fired in 2002 for chronic absenteeism, U.S. Postal Inspector Marius Greenspan wrote in an affidavit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco.
Kennelly identified himself by name during the call, and postal inspectors immediately recognized him as a former employee who had been the subject of several investigations, Greenspan wrote.
An inspector reported being aware that 'Kennelly was an alcoholic and he would sometimes call the post office ranting and raving,' Greenspan wrote.

Look at the box of SOS scrub pads in the last posting. I bought it in San Francisco. Why is the box in English and Spanish?

English is supposed to be the main language. We are not in Mexico, so why the Spanish? So that illegal aliens can read the box, you say?

Let me tell you my opinion. Illegal aliens are draining our economic system and should not be here. States even have bilingual voting forms! Now I ask you: If you need to be a U.S. citizen to vote, and you must know the English language to vote, why are voting material bilingual?
